Professor Nicola Phillips commenced as the Vice Chancellor and President of Adelaide University
in January 2026.
A distinguished scholar in global political economy, she held academic and leadership positions
at the Universities of Warwick, Manchester, and Sheffield, before joining King’s College London
in 2017 as Vice-President and Vice-Principal (Education). She subsequently moved to the
University of Melbourne to take up the role of Provost in 2021.
Over the course of her career, Professor Phillips has been a public advocate for gender equity and
inclusion in universities. She has called for culture change in the higher education sector to
advance gender equity and is actively focused on building an inclusive culture at the new Adelaide
University.
